The Swamp

Where have I been you ask?
I have not been on vacation like I wish that I had been.

Instead I have just been in the middle of...

The Summer Swamp
That time of year where other people go on vacation and you get stuck doing all their work plus your own. When every weekend seems to be filled with gatherings and parties. Where the weather is so beautiful that there is no way you will stay in doors.
So here I am, finally coming up for
air above the insanity that seems to overtake July.
I'm finally feeling like things are getting back to normal
and not quite so overwhelming.

So what did you miss?

You definately missed me running my first HALF MARATHON!

I ran the San Francisco Half on July 26.
It was an amazing feeling to run across the Golden Gate Bridge with 26,000 other runners!

Please excuse the large PROOF across these photos. The company that took the photos for the marathon is charging $18 for a 5x7 print and no digital copy. So, because I think that is absurd, I stole the proofs.

It felt so good to finish my first race.
I can't believe I actually ran 13.1 miles in a race!
Amazing!!

I have most certainly caught the running bug. I plan to run two more races this year:

San Jose Rock 'n' Roll
and
Big Sur Half Marathon

Both races are half marathons. The first runs
through downtown San Jose and has bands playing along
the route. The second is a trail half marathon in
Monterey overlooking the ocean. Both races should be
challenging and fun!

My ultimate goal is to run the
Colorado Marathon
in May of next year. Can't wait!

And after all of that, I will finally get a vacation this year!! I'm leaving for 2 weeks of visiting my college roommates starting tomorrow. Stay tuned for posts from the road. :)

I will not be posting any more TWD posts until after I get back from my vacation. I look forward to continuing baking with the group!

I think I'm running the Colorado Marathon, too! I'm going to try to survive Chicago first, but if I do, Colorado is my #1 choice. We drove the whole course when I was home last-- it's AMAZING.
Hope we both run it! That would be great!

Congratulations!!! I was in San Francisco last year and biked across the bridge. What a wonderful city. I also remember my first marathon and what a feeling of accomplishment it was when I crossed the finish line. Congrats again!
